SCUGOG HERITAGE DAY Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scugog Shores Museum Village, 16210 Island Rd., Port Perry Celebrate the heritage of Scugog with an all-ages day of crafts, games and discovery stations. Visitors can check out heritage demonstrations like blacksmithing, spinning and weaving and operation of a printing press. Explore the museum's 12 historic buildings and Ojibway Heritage Interpretive Lands to experience how settlers and Indigenous people of Scugog lived in the 19th century. FAMILY FUN DAY Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ajax Downs, 50 Alexander's Crossing, Ajax Family Fun Day is an annual event at Ajax Downs. This year's event includes horse racing, live entertainment, a barbecue, bouncing maze, face painting, henna tattoos, crafts and games. There is a minimum $1 donation for some activities with all proceeds going to the Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation. The first 1,000 kids get a loot bag for a minimum donation. MOVIE IN THE PARK Aug. 19 at dusk Kick off the weekend with a free movie under the stars. "Raya and the Last Dragon" screens outside on a giant inflatable screen at Miller's Creek Park, 95 Magill Dr. in Ajax. Start time is approximately 8:20 p.m., the movie will move indoors to the McLean Community Centre gymnasium in the event of rain. Bring your own chair or blanket and bug spray. EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL Aug. 18 to 21 The Regent Theatre, 50 King St. E., Oshawa Mansfield Entertainment brings "Evil Dead: The Musical" back to Oshawa after a sellout smash in 2017 and 2019. This show takes the elements of the cult classic films "The Evil Dead," "Evil Dead 2" and "Army of Darkness" and combines them into one of the "craziest theatrical experiences of all time." WEEKEND FARMERS MARKETS There are several weekend farmers markets in Durham where you can find fresh produce, meat, honey, baked goods and handmade products. On Saturdays, check out the Port Perry Lakefront Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the base of Queen Street by the waterfront; the North Oshawa Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Delpark Homes Centre, 1661 Harmony Rd. N. in Oshawa; or the Brooklin Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3 Vipond Rd. in Brooklin. On Sundays, the Uxbridge Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Herrema Fields, and the Clarington Farmers Market is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Newcastle Memorial Arena, 103 Carloline St. W. WHAT TO DO IN DURHAM THE WEEKEND OF AUG. 20 AND 21 Hanna Cummer met some of the horses during the 10th annual Family Fun Day at Ajax Downs Aug. 18.
