The good news is they appear to be present in smaller numbers. Municipalities learned from the infestation last summer and hope to deal with the spongy moth, also known as the Lymantria Dispar Dispar (LDD) moth, and stay on top of the issue. "We did some tree vacuuming," said Scott McKay, the City of Pickering's forestry management coordinator. "We vacuumed the egg masses that were left from the moths last year so there would be less hatching of the caterpillars."
