Born August 7, 1933, and raised in Galway, Ireland, Blan was the sixth, and last remaining, of eight children. She married her late husband Thomas in 1954 and together they devoted their lives to each other, their family, and their faith. Throughout her life, Blan held a deep and unwavering faith in God, which she shared with many of those whose lives she touched, and which gave her great comfort during her final days. In 1966, she followed her husband to Canada, shepherding their five young children across the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually settling in Oshawa, Blan became active in her church (St. Gregory the Great); she became a mainstay of the weekly prayer group she attended; and she provided spiritual support and guidance for members of her parish community. With her generosity, kindness, and quiet humour, she had a talent for putting others at ease, and all were welcome at her table. She will be greatly missed by her children Andrew, Anne, Irene, Jeanne, and David (Allison); by her grandchildren Veronica (Issa), Victoria (Derek), Virginia, their father Peter, Ryley, Falynn, Declan, and Brendan; by her great- grandchildren Nadia, Lila, Kate, Salim, Alina, Bronwynn, and Emersyn; and by family and friends at home and abroad. A Funeral Mass (family only) was held at St Gregory the Great Catholic Church on June 9th. Mass was followed by a private Burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
