On Monday, May 30 at about 10:40 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the Apollo Road and Fonda Road area of Markham for a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman sleeping inside the vehicle, York police said. During the investigation, police found marijuana in the vehicle near the driver and passenger. The two occupants were searched, along with the vehicle, police noted. Police found a handgun in a bag accessible to both occupants, along with ammunition, a gun silencer, body armour, masks, a machete, marijuana and alcohol. On Tuesday, May 31, officers executed a search warrant at a Markham home connected to the investigation and found a quantity of ammunition. Ajayson Premachandran, 23 of Whitby, has been charged with nine firearm-related counts, one count each of having care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available and having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor. A 24-year-old Markham resident is also facing nine firearm-related charges. WHITBY PERSON FACING FIREARM CHARGES IN MARKHAM CRIME Police are trying to identify a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in Whitby. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 27 at Real Canadian Superstore on Taunton Road, according to Durham police. A woman told cops she was approached by an unknown man who touched her inappropriately before fleeing. The suspect is a man believed to be in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall with a slim build.
