The new business is located at 23 Consumers Dr., in the space formally occupied by Laser Quest. That company announced in 2020 that it would not re-open many of its North American locations as a result of the pandemic. At 16,000 square feet, the multi-level laser tag arena at LaserMaxx Games is the largest in Ontario. Manager Corey Dixon says the space has been refreshed and the game has been updated with new equipment. "We took the typical laser tag concept and modernized it a lot. The vests have more modern features, we added more special effects to the arena and there are more game modes available," Dixon says. News that Whitby will once again have a laser tag venue was met with joy on social media. "We've been waiting for this to open since we saw the sign on the building. We have missed laser tag so much," one commenter said. Some of the structures from the previous Laser Quest have been retained to create a sense of nostalgia for players who have fond memories of the space. Dixon says upgrades to the vests, guns and special effects make the experience very immersive. "It makes kids feel like they're actually in a video game," he says. Work is underway to add more attractions to the new complex in Whitby, including a virtual reality experience and escape room. LaserMaxx Games will offer birthday party packages as well as group bookings for corporate events, youth groups, sports teams, day camps and schools. A second LaserMaxx Games location is planned for Mississauga. Are you opening a new business in Durham? Tell us about it!
