The incident prompted police to issue a warning to parents to be vigilant about their children's internet use. It is alleged the suspect, 33 at the time, established a relationship with the 12-year-old victim on a social media platform. Sexual assaults occurred in 2003 and 2004, police allege. The suspect used the alias Joe Viveiros during the exchanges with the child. Emmanuel Demedeiros, 52, of Beachville Circle in Brampton, faces charges including sexual assault, sexual interference, and luring.
