The first phase of this Study is determining how much future population and employment growth can be accommodated within existing urban areas and how much additional urban land is required to the year 2051. The Region is assessing alternative land need scenarios to inform the decision of how and where the Region should grow to 2051. Details of the alternative land need scenarios and initial assessment results are now available for review. Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to participate in and provide feedback through the following: When: Thursday March 24, 2022 Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Description: The Public Information Centre will include staff and consultant presentations and provide the public with the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the alternative land need scenarios. Public Information Centre (Virtual) Survey Four home improvement stores across Durham will be looking to collectively hire more than 100 additional employees during an upcoming March hiring fair. It's estimated that Lowe's stores in Oshawa, Pickering and Whitby, along with Rona in Uxbridge, will fill 130 full- and part-time positions during a province-wide hiring blitz March 10 to 12. Available positions include receiving clerk, sales associate and night crew member as well as administrative support and merchandising roles. Lowe's Canada is aiming to hire more than 1,900 full- and part-time positions across Ontario through its hiring event. The company anticipates hiring 45 new people at its Lowe's locations in Oshawa and Whitby and another 32 new employees for its Pickering store. Ten new people are expected to be hired at the Uxbridge Rona location. "With the home improvement growth we have seen over the past two years, our network offers much more than just a job; it offers the perfect learning ground for anyone who wants to develop their skills and grow," said Marc Macdonald, senior vice-president, human resources, in a press release. "Whether it's for laying the groundwork for a career filled with development opportunities or for a summer job to get hands-on home improvement experience, our store network offers Canadians looking for work an ideal environment to build a solid foundation for the future." Lowe's Canada will hold a hybrid hiring event using an online platform -- https://jobs.lowescanada.ca/ -- developed especially for the organization. Those who would like to conduct an in-person interview may use the platform to book a time slot in advance or simply drop by the Lowe's or Rona corporate store of their choosing between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on March 10, 11 or 12. The platform will also allow those who would prefer to go through the virtual route to conduct live video interviews from their own home or, for those who would be unable to connect during the time frame of the event, to pre-record their first interview at the time and place that is most convenient for them. This year's budget meetings will be held virtually and live-streamed on DDSB's YouTube Live channel. On March 30 at 6 p.m. a preliminary budget analysis will take pace and the education finance committee will hear public deputations. An overview of 2022-23 grants for students needs funding will be presented May 18 at 7 p.m. On June 1 at 7 p.m. there is another opportunity for public deputations and the 2022-23 draft budget will be presented and tabled for consideration and potential recommendation for approval.
