durhamregion.com 2 The Citizen April 18, 2014 Free programs for youth in Brooklin The Town of Whitby was recently recognized as a Platinum Level Youth Friendly Community and continues to create more great youth programs to help maintain that status. For our youth, ages 12 to 18, it means there are lots of great free programs to take advantage of. The Town has two youth rooms with drop-in programs and pre-registered programs that run throughout the year, one at the McKinney Centre, 222 McKinney Dr., and the other at the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, 8 Vipond Rd. Both youth rooms are open Monday to Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 to 8 p.m. At both locations there is Monday Movie night starting at 5 p.m. and this month they have a month-long contest with a chance to win an Easter basket filled with goodies. Also at both locations, starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, youth are invited to celebrate Earth Day where they get to make their own worms and dirt. Each youth room has its own monthly calendars with special theme nights, events and workshops. They have ping pong, pool tables and TVs with a wide variety of games to enjoy all for free.
