Friday, February 17, 2017 Brooklin's Community Newspaper • Circulation 8000 Delivered via Canada Post brooklintowncrier.com HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS BTC: 100 Years Young! Catherine Jackson turned 100 on Feb. 6. She's pictured here with Whitby-Oshawa MPP Lorne Coe who presented her with a special certificate at The Court of Brooklin. She moved there 12 years ago because, she says, she got tired of cooking and shovelling snow. Longevity seems to run in her family. Her older sister lived to 100, another to 98, and a third is now 86. Her brother Bruce lived to his 80s. She and her husband Orval celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 1988. Catherine has 9 children and 20 great grandchildren. Meanwhile, at a lunch table a few feet away, Kay (Kathleen) Fritz looked forward to her 101st birthday on Feb. 24.The first and thus longest serving resident of The Court, Kay spent 35 years as an elementary school teacher, with her first job teaching the Amish.
