Friday, August 4, 2017 3Brooklin Town Crier How Many Have Been Using the 407/412 Highways? Editor's Note: The following was provided by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. It displays statistics about the provincially owned section of Highway 407, from Brock Rd. east to Harmony Rd as well as Highway 412. Since tolling infrastructure was not operational prior to the commencement of tolling on February 1st, 2017, traffic data of the type requested is not available in the free period. Traffic data recorded since February 1st reveals the three hour period of highest usage on weekday mornings falls between 6 am to 9 am, and on weekday evenings between 3pm to 6pm, with the three hour period of lowest usage between 1 am to 4 am. Weekend days experience a single peak period of usage, with the three hour period of highest usage falling between 2 pm and 5 pm and lowest usage between 2am and 5am. Monthly usage, defined as the number of highway trips per month, is as follows: These figures have been rounded to the nearest hundred. The data presented here corresponds with 407 ETR's usage format, to allow for ease of comparison (see Question 4). For comparisons between the provincial-owned portions and those not owned by the province, you may wish to review data available on 407 ETR's website, at https:// www.407etr.com/en/highway/ corporate/usage-statistics.html Feds and Province to give Whitby Improved Infrastructure The governments of Canada and Ontario are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable water and waste- water services that meet their needs. These investments safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protect waterways and preserve local ecosystems while laying the foundation for new economic opportunities to strengthen the middle class across the province. Celina Caesar-Chavannes, Member of Parliament, and Derrick Gleed, Deputy Mayor announced last week that eight new projects in Whitby have been approved under the Government of Canada's Clean Water and Waste Water Fund. The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of fund- ing for this project: $708,450. The provincial government is providing $354,200 and the Town of Whitby will provide the balance of funding. Thanks to this investment, residents of Whitby will benefit from a new and improved wastewater treatment facility, replacing the aging infrastructure currently servicing the community and introducing upgraded processes to ensure cleaner water flows into Whitby's stormwater ponds. These projects are essential to keeping our waterways clean and our communities healthy and livable. This investment is part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario for the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.
