On Saturday, June 18, friends, families and even a few pets, gathered on the new section of Highway 407, between Anderson Street and Ashburn Road, before it opened to vehicles. Aside from walking and wheeling, residents left their mark on the fresh pavement with chalk drawings, enjoyed ice cream cones and posed for photos. The Town of Whitby hosted the event to acknowledge the importance of the new highway and its local impact. "Highway 407 and 412 is a major piece of our transportation network and our local economic development strategy that I am happy to see delivered," said Mayor Don Mitchell. "The project will serve current and future residents, but will also support our employment lands in Brooklin and West Whitby.
