BROOKLIN WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The first. Women's Institute in the world was organized in Stoney Creek February 19th, 1897. The Federated Women's institutes of Ontario came into being February 7th, 1919 when it became apparent that there was a need for co-ordination of the Branch Institutes for more effectiveness. The Federated Women's Institute of Ontario was made a body corporate under the Agriculture Associations Act by an Order-in-Council of the Government of Ontario dated May 11th, 1921. Through the Provincial organization, the Women's Institutes of Ontario are able to speak with authority as one voice. The Board of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario outlines the policies of the organization, and co-operates with the Home Economics Branch, Department of Agriculture and Food, in developing an interesting, educational and cultural programme of work for Ontario Women's Institutes. This programme, while carried on as various projects, is made available to all women of the community. There are 1,377 Women's Institute Branches in Ontario with a membership of 32,467. The Federated Women's Institutes of Canada is the National Organization and affords an opportunity to initiate a programme across Canada which provides the best possible results for efforts expended. The Associated County Women of the World is the International organization of the Women's Institutes. Membership totals approximately 5,500,000 women. Brooklin Branch Women's Institute was organized May 10th, 1910. The Branch Women's Institute is the first and most important part of the entire organization. Non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-racial it is open to all women and girls interested in the promotion of better living.
