Notes
William Albert Holliday was born at Coboconk, Ontario, on March 17, 1866, and in his youth moved to Brooklin where his father, Thomas Jackson Holliday kept a General Store. In 1886 he started working in his father's store, and on his father's death in 1889, took over the business. He sold the Brooklin store in 1912, and moved to Toronto where he remained until 1926, when he returned to Whitby and took over a hardware store on Brock Street South. He sold the store to Walter MacCarl in 1941. Mr. Holliday was the Brooklin correspondent for the Whitby Chronicle in 1892 and from 1894 to 1913 was Treasurer of Whitby Township. For 12 years he was superintendent of the Brooklin Presbyterian Sunday School. He was the youngest charter member of the Brooklin Council of Royal Templars in 1883. He spent the later part of his life in Whitby and died at Oshawa on November 3, 1954. He is buried in Mount Lawn Cemetery, Whitby.

Marjorie Georgina Ruddy (1908-1980) was a prominent Whitby photographer and the only commercial photographer in Whitby during the 1930s and 1940s. Marjorie was the official photographer for the Whitby Police Department starting in the 1930s and as a result took many photographs of car accidents, fingerprints and crime scenes. (Station Gallery.
