"We're kind of mystified when the handout was given out as to why we weren't i- formed," William Lovelock told council in a deputation. Lovelock went on to say that, despite two written requests, Bob Short, the director of planning, had not kept informed about the progresof the expansion. He also said that the chairnian of the meeting, North Ward Councilor Bob Carson, asked for the public questions and commenta on aIl other matters before the committee, except the K- Mart expansion. He did admit that Carson asked for an expianation of the report from short which Lovelock said "we did not hear." "There are a lot of unhap- py residents who feel this lias been railroaded through, " Loveiock said. Later in the evening, Regional Councillor Gerry Emm said that he had called and told Lovelock that ît was possible the idea would corne up before the commit- (Whitby) 400 Mary St. E. tee. "We have been more than patient with this proposai, one that would change our environment, " le said. Whitby's senior regional councillor also said that the residents wiil have left the meeting witli the impression of "no matter what we said. a lot 0f lnput into this plan.", He also said that they had vlrtually been part of the negotiation team. Evans said that lie w85 aware of the residents' ob- jections to the site of the restaurant but noted that Dominion Stores Ltd., had the riglit to veto any developmnent in the other proposed site in the north- west corner of the plaza. Evans said that Dominion wants that area for future expansion. Evans admitted that the plan, as adopted, is "not going _ to make everyone happy.
