The implemen- tation of the A B C D bus routes now puts Whitby in the big money-Iosing league. To accomplish this outstanding fete, our town fathers were more than willing to sacrifice our most precious commodity - our children. In order to accomodate patients and staff at the hospitals and to bring core residents to the outlying shopping plazas, the school children will be the sacrificial lambs. The Board of Education policy states that no home to school transportation will be provided where there is a public bus system available. Our council members were well aware of the boards' policy Protect your Car's ENGINE! OILand' FILTE:R Change!. MAJORE CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED autupar Chryco 1On Most Passenger Cars SDuty Trucks. CHRGEX DURHAM* DODGE CHRYSLER INO. 200 Dundas Wh itby. Street W., 668-6881 Annual meeting The Durham Region District Health Council will be holding its 3rd Annual General Meeting on the evening of Wednesday, June 25th, 1980 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Whitby Municipal Building, 575 Rossland Road East, Whitby. The keynote speaker for the meeting will be Mr. Robert Sturgess, Principal Consultant with Peat Mar- wick and Partners, who will be presenting the "Regional Hospital Role Study" report. Everyone is welcorne to corne and participate. A $ 25,000 Ontario grant to the Town of Whitby will benefit Whitby Harbour Ap- proved Park, Natural Resources Minister James Auld announced today. The municipality will proceed with further development of the 20.25- Ktittucky Frued Ckickea - when they were contemplating a public bus service for the downtown. It wouid appear that votes count, and obviously most school children are not, as yet, in the vote counting age. Next Sep- tember, we can give thanks to Mr. Evans, Mr. Bugelli, Mr. Drunim and Mr. Attersley, as our children are walking to school along roads that are less than safe. Adding fuel to the fire, our school taxes will not decrease and our municipal taxes will be considerably higher and, for anyone wîth two children attending school, it will be another $500 per week to take the service. If the new bus stops signs are any indication of the quality of service, we're in for trouble. Many of them are already at a precarious siant. Progress - Pay more for less! Westminster United Church Sunday service time will change two weeks from now, Sun- day, June 29 the service will begin at 10 a.m. and will remain at this timne until August 3lst. September 7 the church service will once again begin at il a.m. Blood Donor Clinic - Whitby Legion Hall, Wednesday June 25 from 2to8 p. m. Ac- tivities include: dramna, art, sports, and music. For further information contact Lorraine McKay at-668-3676. Have a good week. EDITORS NOTE: MIrs. McEachern's opinion's on the newl> established municipal transit service are not necessariiy those of tie Whitby Free Press or its individual staff members. .However, it should be polnted out that the introduction of the town's service wili in no way, as yet, disturb the sehool bussing of elementary school children. High school students may, In- deed, lose the service provided by the Durham board of Education, although it shouid be pointed out that the vast majority of them wwlIl probably not lose their school bus. The Board of Education wilI only drop their service if the municpal one is found to be adequate for the transportation of school children. It is not yet known whether or not Whithy's service complies with what the board deems as adequate. That wiIl probably not be known until the fali since summer vacation has already begun for a majorlty of Whitby schooi children. hectare (50-acre) park, in- cluding further road and parking area construction, landscaping, and extension of electrical services. The grant is made available under The Parks Assistance Act and the municipality will contribute an equal amnount. WHITBY SU 9:50SCOO PENTECOSTAL CHURCH NDY CHO 307 DROCK ST.
