The canvas oil palnting on which the sket- ch is based was commissioned by Eugene Henry, the former chairman of the Local Ar- chitectural Conservation Advisory Commit- tee (LACAC) who In turn presented it to the town as his gift for Whitby's 125th anniver- sary. As part of the Free Press' celebration of the Town of Whitby's anniversary, included in today's issue is a 20 page supplement en- titled "Our Historical Heritage." It traces the history of early Whitby and concentrates on the reasons why Whitby developed into the town that we know today. The articles for the supplement were writ- ten by Eugene Henry, Whitby's foremost historian. lncluded in the supplement are biographies of such important and fascinating early Whitbyites as Captain James Rowe and Peter Perry. This supplement should give us a window into our heritage.
