Rene Thiebaud thanked the speaker. Judge for the Tulip Show was Marion Garnaghan of Blackstock and there were 102 entries. Audrey Young announced the winners; prize for the best speciment tulip, donated by Brown's Foodmaster, going to Lyla Allan of Whitby. Best Decorative prize, donated by Jaytras Florist, went to Dorothy Barter of Whitby. The IlMock Mayor" of Whitby, Keith Wick, then spoke briefly. Following a very busy and most interesting evening. We were also fortunate in being involved in a promotion with the "lHouse of Brougham" and 17 of our members planted 3,339 Scotch and White Pine seedlings in 11/2 days. These funds enabled us to plan and hang 20 floral baskets on Baldwin Street and to paint and decorate our float for the Brooklin Spring Fair Parade in which we won First Prize for "Most Beautiful" float. A special thanks goes to the Oshawa Garden Centre for loaning hanging baskets and evergreens to help beautify our float. Fun with Flora followed the announcements. During the month of May, a contest was held at the Public Library for the children, the theme, "Grow with Us". First prize was presented to Steven Crawley, second to Arlene Vilistus and third to Clara Edwards. The president then in- troduced a special guest, Mr. Tom Doucette of Whit- by, who gave the Society a copy of a plaque which was presentaed to Henry Bell- Orving, present Lieutenant- Governor of British Colum- bia, on behaîf of the people o -f Amsterdam in ap- Camp Francais is a day camping programn offered by the Durham Region Family YMCA. Located at the Heber Down conser- vation Area, this camp allows youth to develop and /or enhance their french comprehension and language skills shile en- joying the benef its of a cam- ping program. Designed for children ages 5 to 12 years, Camp Francais stresses fun, meeting new friends, developing camp craft skills and enjoying the outdoors while instructions are given in the French language. During the initial stages of each camp session, em- phasis is placed upon corn- prehension skills. When a suitable level of comprehen- sion has been achieved, specific language skills are introduced. The program is designed s0 that any child with or without French language skîlls can be ac- comodated and enjoy an enriching program. All camp session are 2 weeks in length and bussing is provided to and from camp. All children may also participate in a one hour swim at the end of each camping day and an optional overnight during the second week of camp.
