PAGE 6, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 1980, WFIITI3Y FREE PRESS Cou tyTown ingersgave great performance Dear Sir: For those of you who didn't get to see the recent COUiA...J Town Singer's Annual May Show at Aride. jon Collegiate on May 12 & 13, you missed one hec k of a performan- ce! I arn a former mem- ber of the choir and Il admit this is not exac- tly an unbiased opinion, because I think the choir is great anyway, but I can speak candidl y on behaîf of my in-laws who raved that it was the best show they have seen yet. The choir sang in an easy-going yet con- trolled style. They were smiing and ob- viously enjoying the show as much as the audience. Although many of the numbers had been performed in previous shows, it was almost like hearing thern for the first tirne. The new director, Russelli Baird, has done a tremendous job of putting together this show in the short tirne he has been with the group. This is a tribute not only to him but also it is a tribute to the tremendous amount of talent which exists within the ranks of the choir. The pianist Marg Webber and the assistant pianist Ursula Williamson and the assistant director Bob Dudar, have been keeping it "ialtogether" and "in shape" since January when Jim Ashly resigned as director after devoting 13 years of faithful and produc- tive service to the choir. The audience reac- ted to the performance with a standing ovation and were rewarded by encores which improved on the previous numbers. The choir I arn sure could have Sung al night. I know I arn looking forward to catching the singers' perfor- mances at the Firefighter'5 Pavillion in Oshawa duxing Fiesta Week in June and I also know I won't be disappointed.
