BROOKLIN SPRING FAIR NEWS Membership cards are now available at Short's Pharmacy, the Emporium, Brooklin Pro Hardware or Gary Young Plum- bing. The membership which is $400 ($2.00 for students) entities you to three admissions to the fair. These will not be available during the fair. Entry and prize books are now available for those interested in exhibiting. These also give a complete list of events planned for the weekend. Remember the dates of the fair this year are Thursday, May 29; Friday, May 30; Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. WINTARIO/MISS BROOKLIN PAGEANT On Thursday, May 29, the Brooklin and District Kinette Club in cooperation with the Brooklin Spring Fair Board presents the 146th Wintario draw live from the Brooklin Memorian Arena. Prior to the draw Mayor Gartshore will officiate at the opening of the Spring Fair, Miss Brooklin Spring Fair and her two runners-up will be chosen (the preliminary juding for this pageant will be held Wednesday evening and is not open to the public due to limited space) and we wilI be entertained by the County Town Singers. This is an evening you won't want to miss, so purchase your ticke searly. Advance tickets, which are $3.00 including a Wintario ticket you will be given at the door) are on sale now at Short's Phar- macy, Brown's Foodmaster and the Emporium in Brooklin and at Shorty's Cigar Store in Whitby. (No additional ad- mission price to the fair is required on Thursday night). Tickets will be available at the door. BROOKLIN SPRING FAIR DANCE Advance tickets are on sale for the Spring Fair Dance on Saturday, May 31 fromn 8:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. at the Brooklin Memorial Arena. Live music by "The Lidos" is presented courtesy of the Manchester Credit Union. There will be a bar and lunch will be served. His talk will cover: Canadian records and where to find them, civil registration, cburch registers, archives, census returns, wills, land grants, libraries, newspapers, local historical and genealogical societies, United Empire Loyalists, and overseas and United States records of a similar nature with the main overseas empbasis on European countnies. Exam- ples of these various types of records, family trees, wills, etc., will be on display after his talk. Baxter was born in Bristol, England in 1912. In 1953, he and his wife and daughter emigrated to Canada, and until bis retirement in 1970, he was vice-president of a Toronto publisbing and marketing company. Since then, he bas devoted bis time to travel, writing about early Canadian history and talkîng about ancestor-hun- ing. He has been a guest on many TV and radio shows in Canada and the United States. His talk w-ll last about one hour and afterwards be will answer questions for as long as anyone wants to ask them. BROOKLIN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY The Brooklin Horticultural Society will be welcoming Dr. Jîm Pringle from the Royal Botanical Gardens at their May 28th meeting. Dr. Pringle will be speaking on "Wildflowers" which shouid assist us in identifying these "gems" on our woodland meanderings. Everyone is welcome at our meetings which are held at the Brooklin United Church at 8:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. We will also be having a flower show at our May 28th meeting featuring "Tulips". Also at this meeting the prizes will be awarded for the "Corne Grow With Us" draw. There have been literally hun- dreds of entries to this popular contest. BROOKLIN LIBRARY NEWS The Library will hold a "Book Fair" sale in the arena during the Brooklin Spring Fair. Many interesting titles of fiction and non-fiction in aduit, young aduit and children's books will be available. These older books must be sold to make room for more valuzble, newer books. Plan to visit your library's booth. Whether you buy a book or just stop to chat with library staff, they'll be glad to see you. MEADOWCREST SCHOOL NEWS Those who attended the production of "Tomn Sawyer" at Meadowcrest School last week were treated to an excellent performance by Grade 6, 7 and 8 pupils. Costumes and sets were very authentic and the quality of ac- ting ai-id singing by the students certainly proved that we have some talented youngsters. Hard work and hours of practising by the pupils along with the guidance and support of staff members contributed to producing a top notch show BROOKLIN UNITED CHURCH There will be a Reid Florist demonstration of flower arranging and corsage making at the C.C. Building of the Brooklin United Church. There will also be a display of fancy quilts and othercrafts done by local people.
