Whitby youths try out for established di*rector By LYN SPARLING Friday, January leth, several Witby youths at- tended workshop auditions for onstage and backstage parts in "What Arn I Bid?". After a successful run last August, the J. MeBrien School of Creativity has decided to remount this collective play about the history of the Scugog area with a new cast, new stories, additional music and dance. The production is being directed by Jeff Cohen, a professional director retained by The Sehool through a Theatre Ontario "Youth Theatre Training Programme", funded by the Ontario Arts Council and The Ministry of Culture and Recreation. Mr. Cohen is a graduate of York University, indirec- ting, and also has studied voice at the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatie Art in London, England, and ac- ting at the Banff Sehool of Fine Arts. He has been a professional actor for twelve years and is experienced as a musical director, guitarist, singer, composer, and playwright. Presently, Mr. Cohen teaches« acting at York University and at his own studio, "Professional Ac- tor's Workshop", in Toronto. He is artristie director of Skylight Theatre which will be performing theatre in Metro parks next summer. Most recently, Mr. Cohen has co-written a film for television entitled "Clown- White" with music by Bruce Cockburn and starrîng L.oreen Yarnell of Sheilds and Yarnell.
