MOTORS UMIE Hwy.7A West -Port Perry - 985-8411 BLI ý WHITBY Elementary teacher's contract 1 Littie.progress towards accord board says Negotiations with representatives of Elemen- tary School Teachers for a 1979-80 collective agreement began in January 1979. The trustees and teachers bargaining committees, af- ter meeting seven times over a period of nine months have made little progress toward an agreement. There have been no requests by either party for changes in 19 articles in the 1978-79 contract and it is assunied that trustees and teachers can sign these items off ver y quickly. The major issues in despute include staffing (pupil-teacher ratio), wages, benefits, and job protection. Unquestionably the stunibling block to progress has been the staf- fing issue. In the 1979 budget, the board did provide for additional special education resource teachers. Trustees do feel that they have demonstrated an awareness of a need and have acted positivley through the budget process to ease some of the problem. Parents, teachers, prin- cipals and supervisory of- ficers play an important role in identifying such problems for trustee and board review and they attempt to deal with these within budgetary restraints. Requests by teachers for contractural agreements on how many teachers will be employed, what kind, how they will be used, in addition to how much they will be paid will continue to present major bargaining dif- ficulties for trustees. The Durham Board has concluded a 1979-80 contract with it£ secondary school teachers. Many of the con- cerns of these teachers were presented, debated, and resolved. The trustees committee which is bargaining the elementary contract is confident that with hard work and good will, a satisfactory agreement can be reached with elementary teachers representatîves early in 1980. A provincial mediator, Dr. D. Tough, has been appoin- ted by the Education Relations Commission to assist the parties in reaching an agreement. A bargaining session is planned for early January. Chairman G. Kitchen, is confident that "if we can get to the bargaining table and work hard we will be suc- cessful". "Durham elementary teachers are superior professionals", notes Board Chairman A.S.Winter, "'They have the motivation 'to teach well. 1 arn confident they will bargain effectively and responsibly". FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 1980, PAGE 7 THEI 198O'S AND BEYONDI TItS IS WHAT WIL APPEN Jeane Dixon and other Psychics are busy with their prognostication for the coming decade. The eternal god in Heaven laughs at their puny predictions. God only can reveal the end from the beginning - one third of your bible is prophecy - most of that is for us today and beyond. The church of God has for the past 50 years been telling this world what will corne to past. We have neyer been wrong. Here then is what God says-- -Europe will remnain as a 10 nation United States. -Germany wîll be the strong nation of Europe. -This united Europe will rival the U.S.A. and Russia in military power. -Europe will become the greatest trading power ever seen on this earth. -Another Hitler type strong man will arise in Europe. -A great false religious leader with miracle working powers will arise in Europe. -A power to the south, comprising Egypt and other arab nations will arise. -This united military Europe will prepare for battle. -God will then send Jesus Christ back to this world to establish the kingdomn of God on this earth - there shaîl be peace, joy and no more sorrow for a 1,000 years.
