Virtuoso helps launch symphonyseason What is being heralded as probably the fineet season for mnany years for the Oshawa- Durham SYmphony Orchestra (ODSO), wiIl open on Sunday, Dec. 15 with The Great Romantics., The programn, designed by new music director and conductor, Marco Parisotto, includes three compositions; Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat,, Brahm's Symphony No. l In C minor, OP.68 and the first Performance of' a work for orchestra by Montreal composer James Harley. The work was conxmissioned by the Oshawa-Durham Symphony Orchestra and the Canada Council. The soloist for the piano concerto will be, in'the words of Parisotto, "The poetic André Laplante, a long- admired Canadian virtuoso, who will electrify you with the wizardry of Llszt's First Piano Concerto." The Brahmns First SYmphony, considered one of his greatest compositions, is one of two mAjor workçs by Brahms selected by the music director for this season in celebration of the 1Oth anniversary of the composer's death., The first concert of the ODSO's 4Oth season will be performed at College Park Church, 1164 KingStreet E., Oshawa, starting at 8 p.ni. ickets are $18 for aduits, $15 for senioris, $10 for students and $2 for children 12 and under. There are savings if tickets are purchased for three or four concerts of the four-concert season; also, family and group rates are available.
