Aý,t the librairy Writing contest begins The Why Public Library witing contest is being launched during Whitby ià brary Week,ý Oct. 20-27. Writers of ail ages are invited to participate. There are three contests and five different age categories relating to the theme "A library says a lot about a town." The contest is co-sponsored by the Whitby Public Library board and Witby Business in Action. Cash prizes worth $1,000 are avaible to be won, and WIll be awarded during Whitby Librazy Week in October 1997. Whitby Business Action will hold a %Masquerade Dance' on Friday, Oct. 25 to raise funds ta support the cash prizes for the writing contest. Cali 666-3491 ta purchase tickets. The three contest categories - poetry, essays and short stories, plus photographs with captions - are divided into five age groupa. Participants must be residents of Whitby at the time of entry, and must have an active library mernbership.
