Whitby edged the host Boston team 4-3 in an exciting championship final. In gaines in which the red line was elimiinated to'allow for long, lead passes, Whitby hadrmade the adjustrnents by the final gaine and it worked in their favour as the gaine progressed. Terriers and Whitby were tied 2-2 after the first poriod on goals by Ron Robertson and Ryan Tutak. Terriers, despite Whitby domination,:took a 3-2 lead in the second period. In the third period, Robertson tied the gaine on. a goalmouth pass froi Mike Kosiw. With 38 seconds left, Kosiw fed a 'long pass te Robertson who scored the winning goal.. In earlier play, Whitby won three of four gaines in the round- robin, including a Marc Gleeson shutout over UfMass. Tyler Harrison had six goals and five assists in the four gaines, Brandon McBride five goals, Robertson and Wade Branch four goals each, Kosiw a goal and five assista. Kosiw had three goals in a 7-1 win over Middlesex Isianders in the semi-finals. Andrew Pigrain, Robertson, McBride and Branch also scored. Brighton tournament Jan. 13/14, Whiitby met some strong competition before finally clinching the championship. The first game against Collingwood ended in a 1-O win in triple overtime with a goal by Kristian Haîkias. Justin Connors registered the shutout. kn gaine two, Drew Dockrill backstopped the teain to a hard- fought 4-2 victory over unbe.aten Campelîford. Goals came- froin Paul Lombardi, Michael Finigan, B.J. Bowlee and Erik Petersen.. In the championship, Whitby met a teain from Ernestown. Once again the gaine went into overtime, ending in a 4-3 victory with a goal by Finigan, hie second of the gaine. Other goal-scorers were Lombardi and Janiie Millage. Theplay of Geof Wells, Daryl Konecny, Brian Chard, Robin Cote, Darryl Donaldsoon, Karen Farquharson, Andrew Hewson and Le. Waddington contributed to the victory. With the victory, the team extended its undefeated season record to 20-0-3 in league and tournament play. At Cambridge, in the round-robin, Whitby defeated Kitchener 10-2, Cumnberland 8-3, Grey-Bruce 4-3 and Sudbury 2-1. The forwards - consisting of Jennifer Leighton, Stephanie Campeau, Lindsay Freeman, Krista Mueller, Jessica Brownridge, Rachel Reid and Nicole Freeman - combined to provide ample scoring punch needed to put Witby in the semni-final against Cambridge.
