Wbitby won 4-3 ini Newmarket and defeated Markham 2-1. Newmarket opened the scoring after only 47 seconds of play, but tbis proved ta be the wake-up cal Wblitby needed. The Witby minor peewee AAA hockey teamn had a fie and a bs in their firat two beague games. Whitby scored three goals in the third period ta fie Barrie 6-6. Cbris Elson and Kevin Peel each scored two goals with Richard Min and Nathan Cotter getting singlea. Quinte scored a shorthanded goals with lema than a minute remaining ta defeat Wbitby 4-3. James Hlfnkson, Min and Ebson scored. Ebson, Min, Peel and Hinkson scored in a 4-4 fie with Markham Islanders in exhibition. I the Kawartha Early Bird tournament in Peterborough, Whitby had a win and three bosses. In Newmarket on Sunday, Whitby won a seesaw battle 5-4. Seton, Healy, Greer, Andrew Meadows and Mathew Goodwin, on a breakaway, scored for Whitby. Healy also had two assists as he continued bis hot scoring pace. Jordan Callaghan and Justin White combined to stop 29 shots in the Whitby net. In a 5-1 win on Friday, Whitby jumped out to an early lead with goals by Ryan Meaney, Ben Scheepers and Scott Cook, and in the second period, Stefan Haas scored two goals. Michael Kobrynovich had three assista. On Saturday, Pickering scored earby, but Whitby's Kevin Taylor bit the ice from the penalty box ta fie the game. Markham was a physical team and scored firat, halfway in the flrst period, after a confusing huddle in front of Wbitby's net. In the third Sean Kerr put one past Markham's goalie only to have it waved off with an apparent "quick" wbistle. Kerr wasn't about to be shut.down and with 4:23 left ini the game, on a pass from Matt Annis, tied the game with a wraparound goal. Seconds later Connor scored again on a pass from Thibodeau.
