Truck driver not. responsible- for accident By Mike Kowalskl A Whitby transport truck driver was not responsible for an accident that demolished another vebicle and tied up traffic on Highway 401 for several hours last wee k. Ontaro Provincial Police say no charges were laid against the unidentified man in connection with the accident that occurred west of Port Union Road in Scarborough on Wednesday afternoon. Instead, police are focusing.their efforts on fincing the driver of a car whose illegal lane change led to a spectacular crash between the truck and a second vehicle. Collision dlaims liTe A 19-year-old Ajax man 'was killed in a two-vehicle collision at Hîghwýay 7 and Halls Road Sunday morning. Ontario Provincial Police say Michael Pineo was travelling south on Halls -Road in'bis 1984 Plymouth and failed to stop for the stop sgn. at the intersection at ighway 7. His wife was also stabilized and taken te hospital in Peterboroughi. oflhitand run A Whitby cyclist was badly inijured when struck by a hit-and- run driver in Ajax on Monday night, Oct. 2. 1Derrck Oliver, 33, was riding hi. bicycle along the right edge of Bayly Sizeet, just- west of Lakaridge Road, at about 7:30 p.m.L He was3 struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle and knocked off bis bicycle. His left leg was badly hurt, and he was left laying on the ground. A passing motorist saw Oliver and stopped, and called police and ambulance from bis car phone. Oliver was taken to Ajax-Pickering Hospital. Durham Regional Police say the vehicle lias some damage to the Ini manoeuvring bis rig to avoid colliding with the first car, the truck 'driver slammed into a second car and dragged it several feet down the highway before the twisted wreckage broke free.
