On Sept. 9 in Bowmanville, with no scoring until the thurd period, Danny Caird scored the opener, foflowed by Matt Hlircock and then again by Caird in a 3-0 shutout. Goaltending was superb by both Julian Owen and Bryan Sand. Lucas Naylor had two assias. Whitby tied Ajax "- Sept. 14. Whitby dominated in the third, period but could not beat the Markham goaltender. Head coach Gord Cotter's lineup for the season includes returning players Darryl Forsey and Joel Whitmarsh (goalies), skaters Josh Turcotte, Ian Witruk, Ryan Matthews, James lnkson, Matt Taylor, Nathan Cotter, Dan VonEscholtz and Kevin Peel, and newcomers Trevor Sommerville, Andrew Gronross, Chris. Elson, Richard Min, Dami Amurawaiye, Daniel Deluca and Andrew Greenen. Cotter is assisted by coaches Doug Turcotte, Charles Peel and Steve Skens. The Whitby Falcons under-13 rep sccer team feUl to first-place Woodbridge in the serni-finals of the CSL Cup. Despite a season plagued with injuries, Falcons finished third in regular season play. Whitby started well against Brantford' with Alicia Juhian scoring early in the flrst haîf on a cross by Sylvia Forbes. But two defensive lapses late in the haîf led to two Brantford goals and Whitby eventually lost 3-1. Needing a win i their second game, Whitby came out fiat and were neyer in the game, losing 4-0 to North hMississauga. In their final game Saturday against N.E. London, the eventual tournament champions, the real Whitby team showed up to play. Whitby pressed their attack from the opening whistle and were rewarded with a goal midway through the first haif fro m Laura Bain. Whitby's three backs, Monica Forbes, Megan Dejonge and L.auren Dickenson, defended weil. Whitby repeatedly trapped London offside, but midway through the second haif, the referee stepped in to decide the game, giving a penalty to tie the game. With two minutes to play, London got the winner. The other Whitby Marigolde are Alana Rodriguez, Rachel Speare, Monika Sorichetti, Erin Routly, Pam Wilkinson, Alexandra Shaw and Samanitha Meyer.
