Freworks Iight up nights at Cullen stageshow The sky over Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village will be lighting up nightly this summer with a miniature fireworks display as the grand finale to its new stage show, 'Canadiana.' The display, which lasta about two minutes, is the final accent on a show which airns ta lift the viewer's patriotic characters and historic ersta uilt this nation. 'Canadiana' is the firet suminer producftion under new artistic director Marniî Walsh. Walsh and the showls musical director, Paul Hlickey, have spent the lastyeaýr collaborating on the arophitheatre production, struggling ta create a script that would harmonize with the atmosphere of the 26-acre Gardens. They created a musical that take us from farmer ta' prime minister, reliving the years that raised a nation from the forest, reminding us that Canada is a country of freedom and peace.. Ail the music is distinctly Canadian, some of the songs more than a century old, as- well as four original pieces written by Walsh and Hickey. A long, slow audition process brought together a cast of Young talent from acrose Metro Toronto, including Oshawa-Whitby native Patrick Belmonte', a recent graduate of the classical-vocal prograro at Queen's University. l»cluded in the cast are Sheridan musical collge graduates Eve Ogle, Jeif Bowen and Grahamr Vick, and Humnber graduate Suzette Araujo. Rounding out the cast is professional pop singer Mark Tara, a native of Trinidad who moved ta Canada with hisfailyin1975. Hise al; worked with such welI-known professionais as Anne Mortffee, Patsy Gallant, Uisa Louheed and Mficah Barns. He is currently working on a CD) ta be released in 1996. Tree TOP Cops is performed every day (except Thursdays) at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. 'Canadiana' will be performed every day (except Thursdays) at 1:30, 3:-30 and 7:30 p.m., which began June 24 and runs ta Sept. 4. ROSE FESTIVAL The Rose Festival continues at Cul- len Gardens until July 9, with more than 1,200 rose bushes. 'Canadiana,' summer theatre enter- tainment, 15 presented every day.
