One of them, Andrew Channer, returns this year on Mis way to defend bis two-year titie as senior boys' OFSAA long junip champion. An outstanding athlete, he la the Canadian junior long juxnp champion and placed fourth in the saine event at the world junior track and field championships in iàsbon, Portugal last suinier. Expect exceptional performances froin hlm in the triple jump and 100-metre, too. Roxanne Wcooley, bronze meclalist last year at OFSAA in the, 80-metre hurdles, appears posed ta repeat her success this year as a second year junior. A strong contingent Of 400-metre runners is lIed by Dennis Thomas who has bis eye on the junior boys' LOSSA record. Ton Branch has worked hard throughout the year to run aggressively in the conipetitive 200-metre and ilO-metre hurdles. SINCLAIR Although only the first year for Celtics in track and field, the team bhas already built, a strong base, especlally in the midget category. Melissa Hart, Michelle Hyland, Andrea Garley, Ryan H-ickingbottom, Mike Chicoine and Mike Longo are naines to look for at this year's LOSSA championship. The midget girls' 4x00-metre relay teain slar. cularly strong and is lookingor awin. The throws may be the area where Sinclair will excel. Led by David Iulani, a past LOSSA medalist, the teain also includes promising newcomer Chris Broad. FATHER LEO J. AUSTIN A very small and young teani, most of the athletes are ridgets who are competing in their first year. The star of the teani is talented senior girl, Esi Benyarku, last year's junior LOSSA and OFSAA gold medalist in the 100-metre and 200-metre races. An exceptional athiete, she may, paradoxically, meet her toughest competition at LOSSA aginst McLaughlin's Veronica Dyer. G;aels on. the road After wmnning a tough ?home game in overtime against Mimico Mountaineers in front of a captivated crowd on May 8, Oshawa Green Gaels exploded for a 16-7 win in a rematch on May il in junior B lacrosse. Oshawa1 came out scoring seven goals to, Miniico's two in the first period and neyer looked back. Ryan Huster and Paul Salle racked up three goals each with doubles coning from Jay Stewart, Bryan Power, Brent Lazary and Wayne McNutt. Single poppers came from Dan St. Aubin and Jason Jankowski. On taof bis three goals, Salle racke up four assista and earned the player of the gaine award. At Hnsvlle on Saturday, May 13, the first period ended 8«6 for Gaels. After a few adjustments from the bench and the fact that Huntsville lst their top player (gaine nisconduct), Oshawa took over and ended with a 13-8 win. Four goals came from Jankowski, three from Nial Maynard and singles from Coizy Haas Jim Brown, Power, McNutt, St. Aubin and Brad Reed. Gaels now have four wins in five games.
