Our yearbook committee has been busy with ther cameras,, so as you're walking down the halls, keep your pearly whites showing just in case. As for sports, as I mentioned in zny last article, SMASH is coming up, and we ask everyone ta give Our volleyball players that much-needed extra pat on the back ta give them a littie confid- ence. Our hockey teani is also doing quite wrell and we congratulate theni on their succeseful endeavours. Ho (as well as the team) hopes ta win since it is bis last year as a junior. He will also be perforxnxng in this year's school play. Twice a week he practises t h e martial art of ju-jitsu with one of our teachers, M. Brunet.- Fond of bowling, he plays twice a week and spends two weekends a month perticipating in bowling toumainents. He goes by the naine Vincent (Vinny) Dessureault, and PIn sure ho would be more then happy ta talk ta you (since it is one of the things ho does best). AUSTIN Spring is springing, Austin, and ail the melting snow and sunshine have certainly put the Wildcat in the mood for a little change of extracurricular scenery. The onset of this great switch was marked by preparations for Austin's 24-hour Fast For Life ta be held April 7 and 8. One of the most exciting and exhilarating ovents of the school year, the Fast follows the suit of last May's incredibly succossful 30-hour Famine. There is no question that next month the gym will be packed with hoards of starving Wildcats in their support of World Hunger relief. Road hockey intremurals started up last week, and the battered pavement is proof of the Technouchaflenge A competition for Grade 7-8 students from Durham's Public and soperate schools will be held on Thursday, March 30. The transportation lab at Sinclair secondary School in Whitby will bo a hub of activity as local businesses and oducators teani up to provide science eiIll challenges for the 66 students. Local, businosses have contributed materiels, time and personnel for the techno-challonge. Student teains wiil use math, science and technological siIls ta solve problenis or challenges. The University of Toronta's Science Outreach prograin wiil run an engineering challenge for the group. intense, and somewhat damaging, rush of adrenaline. The sight of players bodychecking and shooting with such zoal, the balI boing viciously catapulted through the air, is enough ta make anyone fail off the bleachers in a fit of boundiese energy. Speaking of careen.ing objects, badminton, tryouts begen on Wednesday and sperked what will undoubtedly be a triumphent season for the Wildcats. Al enemies botter have their rackets wired up tightly and their eyes open wid -- those whizzing shuttlecocks will be hard ta keep up with. But for now, the most important thing on the minds of Austin students school-wido is clucking chickens and snake-belts. You guessod it, the ronowned and talented hypnotist Mike Mandel is making bis second appearance at the lair tamorrow. Aftor last yoar's excellent show, hallway chattor this woek seemns to reflect how eagor everyone is ta be "influonced"' by Mandel at this hilerious and heart-stopping event. On the downsido of Austin's non-academic agenda, the junior boys' basketbell tearn comploted its season with a voyage ta Toronta for an exhibition gaine against Upper Canada College. The Wildcat ravagod the colloge 59-36, ending its fantastic roigri on a victarious weok. Well, that's about it, guys. Have a great March break, and in the moantime, go wild on St. Patrick's Day this yeer end dye your arm hair green. The students were- very happy about this because1 usually hats are flot to be worn. The staff also enjoyed dressing in jeans and T-shirts,' because who wents to get ail dressed up the Iast day beore a two-week holiday? I know most of us have not looked this far ehead, but when we return there wiil be a flurry of activity, even the firet day back. First there is the co-ed basketball tournament. The league begins. March 27 and runs to April 17. There will be Aerband auditions Merch 20 to 24. Cet your friends together now so you are ready. The competition will be held on March 29 in blocks C and D. There is a $5 entry fée. Are you'interested in theatre? If so, buy your ticket to go see 'The Country Wife' on May 17 at the Stratford Festival. Even if you are not an excellent lacrosse player but still enjoy it, play at lunch time in a friendly intramural conipetition. The guys cen also play intraxnural lacrosse two weeks after returning. On March 20 the Sinclair Stare will be open for the very first time. It is located in the student common and wiil sou eschool clothing and other memorabilia.
