The cloee-checking ganesw end-te-end action with htby controlling much of the play. However, an earby firet period goal by Raiders and a power-play insurance market in the second were all they needed as the powerful Wibdcat offense was hebd off the scoreboard. On Sunday, Wildcats turned The Whitby major atoin select hockey teain, sponsored by Valuations Consultants bIc., lost 3-0 te Barrie in the consolation final in a teurnament in Oak Ridges recentby. The gaine was exciting as Barrie, one of the strongest teains in the tournament, stermed Whitby in the firat period forcing Wildcat goalie Chris Foxwell to inake four exceptional saves. Whitby missed an excellent chance of its own when captain Dan Deluca rang a hard shot off the post. Scoring for Wibdcats were Thomnas Farquharson and Aaron Maguire with two each. There was a solid goatending performance by Kyle Simpson. On Dec. 15 Wildcata defeated Pickering 7-3. Wldcat goals were scored by Aaron MacMurray (two), Matthew Race (two), Blake Robinson, Derek Rayner and Paul Mfichael Rivest. Rivest, called up froin the major novice select teain, and MacMurray each added two assista. Whitby played host te Vaughan and were defeated 3-0, despite a solld effort by Simnpson in net. Whitby travels to Ajax on Thursday and then te the Wayne Gretzky teurnainent in Brantford during the Christmnas break. Scrooge with a well-earned 5-3 victory over visiting Barrie Flyers After a scorelesa first period, Barrie counted a power- play gfoal at 4:55 in the second peniod Whitby captain iàarn Reddox tied the gaine a couple of minutes later. Whitby then took a slim 2-1 lead when Mfichael McKenzie capitalized on a Flyer giveaway in their own zone. Barrie tied it at 2-2 on a two-on-one with 43 seconda left in the second period. They came eut flying in the first period and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by cail-up Justin Giles. However,' Sutton made the most of their limited opportunities and tied it midway through the period. They then scored on a power play ta lead 2-1 after one. Whitby continued te keep up the pressure in the second period and Deluca finally scored, deadlocking the gaine at two. The third period was frantic at fines as Wihitby continued te apply the pressure but coubdn't break the tie. Finally Giles scored his second goal of the gaine ai-d Wildcats hadà the lead. They looked te be home free from that point but they couldn't kilI off a late penalty and Sutten scored with 1:09 left te tde it up and send it inte sudden-death overtime. Kyle Lixnkibde scored the winner. Player of the gaine was Gibes. TI regular season play, Wildcats defeated East York 1-0 last Thursday. Deluca scored the only goal of the gaine late in the firat period. Foxwell got the shutout. The mid-week gaine saw the strong Peterborough Petes face the Whitby teai that has been pbagued b suspensions and injuries. Barely four minutes into the gaine, Peterborough was up by three goals. TMm DaSilva finally put Whitby on the scoresheet. The second period had Peterborough again start off with two goals whibe Whitby could only respond once, with a nice goal by Darryl Lewis. Petes added another two markers in the last five minutes of the second fraine and that turned out te be ail the scoring for the gaine. Whitby goaltenders faced 39 shots in this one-sided affair. Aaron Bryant, Jainie Barnett and Roy Sears were called up from the AA bantain teamn. Matt Capson had two assista. Wildcats have one more 1994 league gaine, and then travel te Mississauga for the Paul Coffey teurnament. Whitby's goal-scorers against Oshawa were Katie Boys, Joanne Boys, Lima Orviss and Stacey Quesnelle whibe Heidi Wilm got the shuteut (exact scoring statistics not reported). Against Ennismore, Whitby's goal-scorers were Katie Boys, Joanne Boys, Melanie Quesnelle and Lynsie Arts who scored her first hat trick. On Nov. 29, Whitby visited Markham and battled te a 4-4 draw. Scoring a pair of goals each were Melanie David and Tania Chappeil. On Dec. 17, Whitby hosted Mississauga and in a 3-0 victory, showed their defensive strength. Goal-scoring was by Davis with a pair and Ellen Johnson. Assists went te Johnson, Ainsley Hunt, Angela Dunn, Brea Blight and Jessica Williams. Goaltender Heather Hurst posted the shutout. In Broolin on Dec. 13 Wildcats bast te Central Ontario Wolves 6-2. Scoring for Whitby was Dan VonEschschobtz and Jaines H-inkson. On Dec. 17 in a penalty-fibbed gamne in Madoc, Whity tied Quinte 5-5. Whitby caine froi behind twice in the hiard-fought gamne. Wildcats were led by VonEschscholtz with two goals and one assist. Rounding out the scoring were Lucas Naylor, Ryan Mathews and Nathan Cotter.- Robbie Gawne had two assiats.
