Whitby Free Press, Wednesday, November 2,1994 Durharn'duo in running flor MýuchMusic video award, By Steven Rode During the month of April, most students spend their time absorbed in completing essays. Last April, Mark Kueper of Ajax and Michael Paszt of Whitby finished their studies at York University by competing a music video as their' thesis project. The video, entitled ' Flesh,' was froni the latest album release 'Apocalypse Inside,' froni the Canadian band Sacrifice. When Mark and Mike approacbed manager Ray Wallace, neither side knew what te expect. It was perfect timinV,99 says Wallace. "We were shopping around for a video company when Mike and Mark called. Their demo was cool and they were cheap so it was an offer we coul dn 't refuse." This was Sacrifice's fourth video, and the Durham duo were determined to make it good. Using ail their resources and free time, Keuper and Paszt came up with a psychological horror which has influences from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Effects made by Toronto artist Carol Prince enhance the theme-of the video. "Performance videos become boring after a while. We wanted te make a video that would provoke thougbt and interest," says Paszt. After hours of storyboarding, filniing and editing, they released the video to MuchMusic. Both producers and band members were pieased with the effort. "We were totally freaked out by the video," relates Sacrifice iead singer Rob Urbinati. 'We knew it was going to be good but not this good." The bard work paid off. 'Flesh' attained fourth place in the July top 10 of MucbMusic's Power 30, beating out videos from artists such as Alice Cooper and Motley Crue. In September, 'Flesh' was nominatod for. best Canadian heavy nietal video. "It was an honour just to be nominated," says Kueper.
