Durham Business News is a cooperative venture 'of .the Whitby Free.Press and James Publishing of Bowmanville. It is to be rnailed toalal of the approximately il1,000 businesses in Durham Region at no cost as well as distributed to key businesses and hotels and motels. It wtll be published 10 times 'per year at roughly monthly intervals Publisher Doug Anderson, who is also pubtlsher and owner of The Free Press, says that the idea has been un der consideration for more than a year but the pieces finally came tagether in early September. "We eit that the economy had improved sufficiently at that point that such a newspaper would be successful," he says. The newspaper will feature input from ail the chambers of commerce, boards of trade, Durham Region Manufacturers' Association, the economic development departments of the Region and its memfber municipalities, DRACT and numerous other business organizations and agencies. It wili cover business issues from a business perspective. *Any new legislation which affects business from ail levais of government will be discussed, analysed and, if appropriate, criticized. "Business has just coine through the worst- economic, conditions *since the thirties," says Anderson. 'They're still hurting.
