Kurt Boyce and Danny Wade scored in a 2-0 win over Picker- ing in the final. Earlier, Whitby had defeated Scugog 5-0 as Ryan Meaney and Ryan Lamiot each scored two goals and Justin Chahrouri one. Chahrouri scored three goals and Meaney the other in a 4-0 win over Darlington. Paul- Shannon scored three goals and Tyler Martin, Matt Delastro, Meaniey and Wade one each in a 7-0 decision over U.xbridge. Other team members are Adiam Nicota, Lucas Sandhaus, Joey Delsordo, Roberto Prin- ciotta, Blair Edmonds, Michael Shea and goaikeeper Peter Robertson. Lanf bowl Cup event 'puts Whi*tby on map'1 The Whitby Lawn Bowlinq Club "Put Whitby on the map' with a new, major lawn bowling tournamnent on Sunday that proved to be an outstanding success. Top-ranked bowlers fromn acrosa Ontario, competing in the first-ever Jeffrey Douglas/Fortune Financial Challenge Cup event, had high praise for the local club and the organizational effort expended. Its a mgjor advancement to have a tournament of this calibre in Ontario," said bowling enthusiast and competitor Samn Doak. Sixteen three-men teame competed for a total prize payout of $1,800 -- the highest purse ever offered at an Ontario lawn bowling event. John Haggo (Burlington) with teammates Larry Wales (Agincourt) and Jim Elieff (Agincourt) captured the Challenge Cup and top prize money of $600 by winning thrée games eut of three and tallying 49 points. Erik Rank, Dave Bail and Ron Rsiison, ail from Oakville, took second place and $375 with a three-game win and 43 points. The Whitby tearn of Orval Atkinson, Arthtur Mayali and Albert Knibb~ gave the toumanient champions an early scare, losing to the champions by a single point 14-13 in the first ganle. Local bowlers aiso did well in the overali standings. The Whitby team of Alan Hunter, Peter Robb and Alex Pope captured fourth position (worth $180) with a two.ganie win and 47 points. In fît-th position was the Whitby team of Lawrence Smith, Ron Brown and John Hunter. Their two-game win with 41 points gave thern $90. The Challenge Cup was presented by local financial consultant Jefl'rey Douglas to the winning teain.. The day-long event was oficially opened by Mayor Tom Edwards and Douglas who both rolled a bowl -- with Douglas dloser te the "jack" (stationary white bail).
