If you happen te, take a drive te the northern boundary of the Pickerinig/Ajax area,, you might just corne upon a littie church on Concession 8. It cails itself "The littie Church that does." There is a very good reason for this naine because Mount Zion Church has been serving familles throughout this area since the late 1850s -- in other words, the people who originally settled this area. It xnay be a very small church but tt has a very big heart. There are familles throughout this region who corne te visit Mt. Zion svera! times a year te, attend one or more -of the events hosted by the church. These foster a community spirit, and are events which are eagerly awaited, events like the pork barbecue in June which caters te almodt 400 people and provides an eveming of family entertainment in the outdoor area surrounding the church. Then there is the traditional turkey supper in the fali and, of course, the 'iàving Nativity' which is performed outdoors (complete with animais) about a week before Christmas. These events bring about 600 te 700 people te Mt. ZDon, and it is events such as these I have mentioned which help the church te exist in this rural part of our region. That is the good news... now sadly the 'not so Igood' news. About thrèe weeks ago the church had unexpected visiter/s ... not at the normai il a.m. tinte on Sunday when we would have welcomed them. No, they visted Mt. Zion in their own tirne and knuew exactly what they were looking for. They obviously had a great need for PA speakers and decided that the'easiest way to acquire them without having to spend the $1,200 w~h they (Yamaha professional seàkers) coot, was ta, take those belonging to some else. The congregation of Mt. Zion hopes that you like the speakers as much as they did. The congregation of Mt. Zion would also like to hope that with these speakers you are able to provide as rnuch pleasure to as many people as we did. Whoever you are, if you live in this area, don't think that we can simply ask the insurance company to pay for a -new set. It doesn't work that way because our insurance did not cover the contents of the church. les tough being a rural church these days. Ita tough te ineet al of the expenses which occur in trying te keep the doors open... in trying te provide a service te the community... a service which brings people of all ages together, provides Iaughter, love and support when needed. les teugh when equipment, which was such a vital part of entertaining large gatherings of. people, is stclen and the funds are not available te provide replacemnents.. It's tough when one selfishperson places their needs before trhe needs of a co mmunity. lan Robb M. Zioe congregation The Makings of a Perfect Esca e Alil the comforts of a motor home.
