With 'Ghosts' as the theme of this season's Ice Angels presen- tation, Whitby and Burlington were actually tied, each earning three first-plaoe votes froin the judges in the final. But a tally of the ordinals gave Burlington the edge and the gold. Whitby coach Kelly Jennings says the runner-up finish by such a close margin was dis- appointing, but she was more than pleased by the performance of her team, made up of 12- to 15-year-old skaters, in the 12- teani competition. Whitby Ice Elusions tasted defeat for the first time this t..,...........-. season, finishing fourth in the adult division. A faîl in the final probably cost the team a medai but coach Cathy Dalton says her skaters aged 21 and over, performed welf and "felt good about what they did.Y Elusions had won ail three g revious competitions, but hadn't faced Toronto Cricket Club, the eventual Canadiancham is and Oakville, third-place finish- ers. Second place went to Muskoka Blades, a team beaten by Elu- sions twice this season. Dalten's other team, Toronto- based Black Ice, was second in the senior division. Whitby Ice Fyre didn't reach the A finals, but won the B final. Laval, Que. won the senior division, their fourth straight national championship. Whitby had won the championship in consecutive years -- 1988, 1989 and 1990. Fyre coach Jody Jones said competition among 16 teams at the senior (aged 19 and older) level was "the toughest it's ever been.» ON TARIO CHAMPIONSHIP Woodley win s 4 events Kevin Woodley, 9, of Whitby had four first-place finishes at the Ontario track and field in- door chanipionships held recently in Toronto.
