On Monday, Nov. 8, Whitby downed Ajax-Pickering 10-5 in a wide open affair. Brandon McBride led the way with four goals. Michael Koeiw netted tbree goals and an assist. AIse scoring the Whitby was Ryan Tutak (one goal, two assista), Biily Deir (a goal, two assista) and Tyler Harrison (a goal, an assist). Cbipping in with assista were Rennie Robertson with three, Paul Ranger with two and Janiie Fox. ThýrsdY's gaine was a tight-checkcing contest with the rugged Oshawa toarn holding Whitby te, 3-3 until Romie Robertson scored bis second goal of the gaine with 72 seconds remainimg, te ice the 4-3 victory. Leading up te the final goal Kosiw had flred two goals. Assisting on the goals were Harrison with two, Kosiw, Ranger, Fox, Robertson and Amdrew Pigrain. Saturday featured ichmond Hill. After a sluggish start, Whitby exploded for four goals in the third period to leave the Stars wondering wbat bit thein, as Whitby skated to a 7-3 victory. Coach John Fox had juggled bis forward limespro tethe gaine and the mv adoff, as ail three lines counted on the score sheet. Scoring for Whitby were Tutak (two goals, one assist), Koiw (two goals, one assist), Robertson (a goal, two assista) and McBride (two goals). Adding assists were Karen Farquharson (two), Pigrain (two) and Deir. Sunday saw the powerful Markham Thunder corne te town. Whitby was one point ahead of tbe Thunder coming inte, the gaine, se first place was on the lime for the second tirne in two weeks. Havimg lest the first two meetings of the season, Markbain stormned out of the gate te, take a 2-0 lead. Whitby sbowed its character and depth by mounting a stromg and steady conieback. We ning tbe scoring for Whty was James Liske, with assista going te, Tutak and Pxgram. Whithy again fell bebind by tw sonly te bave Kosiw score unassisted with a burat of speed up the right aide. Midway through the third, liske found Pigrain with *a beautiful pass up the middle and Pigrain made no mistake buyn a high shot behind the Makhi goaltender. Playing a mani short, Whitby kept rolling as ià ske sent uta in alone and, with a nifty deke, Tutak iced the victory, leaving the Thunder players and crowd sbakcing their heads in awe. The win leaves Whitby with a 13-2 record and a three-point lead on second-place Markham. In the flrst gaine Friday mornimg, Wbitby beat Peterborough 4-3. Jeff Griffin had two goals and an assist; Brad Lee, a goal and an assist; and Darryl Whitlock, a goal. Ian Maceil had two assists and Mike Wye, John Liriamo, Andrew McLaughlin and Jeff Bremner each had an assist. In an exciting gaine that afternoon, Whitby outplayed Brampton and won 2-0. Jainie Hogel had the shuteut and played an outstanding game. It was a real teain effort as McNeil and WVhitlock each scored for Whitby and were helped by Bremner, Mark Vanderlip, Jeif Malcolm and Matt St. Amnand each with an assist. Whitby then went on the next day te trounce Barrie 5-3 and again it was a tearn effort. McLaugblin secured two goals; Bremner, a goal and an assist; Lee, a goal and an assist; MacNeil, a goal and an assist, and Dale Edwards, iAriano, Geof Park, Brad Oliver and Wye each with assista. lIn a good effort Sunday morning, Whitby lest te Oakville 5-1 in the semi-finals. The single goal for Whitby was scored by Vanderlip, with assists from McLaughlin and Bremner. The consolation final Sumday afternoon was between AI Birthwright of Whitby scored a teuchdown as Oshawa Hawkeyes defeated North York 20-16 te win the Central Ontario atom football cbaxnpionship on Sunday. Birthwright, considered the fastest player in the league, left a boat of North York players in York-Simcoe anai Whitby, with York-Simcoe winning 6-3. Whitlock and Liriano scored for Wihitby as weil as Josh Thompson who had a goal and an assist. Other assista went te Vanderlip, Griflin, Lee, Matt Bongard and MacNeil, who received the MVP award. On a faceoff deep in Ajax territery, Bobby Scblitt tied up the Ajax centre, allowing Matt Foran te convert his owm rebound for the eventual gaine winner. Later in the week, Whitby held off a deterinined Bowrnanville teain, einerging with a 3-3 tie. 'Learn to Skate' offered The Whitby Rollerskating Club is takimg registration for the 'Learn te Skate' prograin Saturday, Nov. 20 at Wheelies. Deers will open at 9:30 a. The eight-badge prograin is taught by profesetonal coaches and morne of Canada's top-ranking artistic ekaters. The basice of rollerskating will be taught, including stopping, edges, backwards skating and turne. ThSe aged 3 and up are welcenxe tejoin, imcluding adulte. Lessons are taught in five-week sesaïons begimning Nov. 20, freirn 10 a.m. te noon. The coot is $25 for each session. RentaI skates are included in the registration fee.
