On Saturday, Oct. 16, there will ho library aud mall displays through Durhamn Region. Tuesday, Oct. 19 is the Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award presentation. A reception will ho held at Little Ark Daycare, Oshawa from 7 te 9 p.zn. Admission is $8 per person. Guest speaker Carol Scannel will discuss childhood poverty in Davis InIet, Labrador and what is 'happening locally te combat the situation. On Saturday, Oct. 23, 3 p.m., the Really Littie Theatre Company and the association will present live, theatre for cbildren, 'The Sentimental Scarecrow,' at Faith Place, 44 William St. W. in Oshawa. The Sentimental &carecrow is the heartwarrning musical tale of a lonely scarecrow. The scarecrow is trappd on his poet in a cornfieId until ho can find someone te be a true friend. The problem is that ne one wants te ho friends with a scarecrow. A wide variety of characters, including a pair of dancing rappers, wander by as the scarecrow pleads with the people te overcome their prejudices and se. that "It doesn't inatter what you look like or where yen corne frein, it's what's inside that counts." Admission is $3 per person. OBITUARIES l AIBEWP IANDALL A momber cf the Whitby Public Utilities Commission and the Wbithy Hydre Electric Commission for 31 years, Albert Randall <ied at the Newcastle Health Care Centre, Newcastle, on Oct. 1, 1993. Ho was 85. A resident cf Whithy since 1920, Mr. Randail was borri in London, England on May 5, 1908 and camne to, Canada at the ageocf 12 as a Barnardo Boy. Ho operated a plumbing and heating business with bis sons on Chestnut Street, Whithy since 1951. Mr. Randail was first elected te the Whitby Public Utilities Commission in 1954, serving as chair in 1957-58, 1962 and 1978, the last year cf the commission. Ho served on its successor, the Whitby Hydro Electric Commission, rm 1979 until his retirement in 1985, for a continucus service record of 31 years. Mr. Randaîl is sur'vived by two sons, Ken and bis wife Serena cf Whitby and Jiiu and bis wife Louise cf OshaLwa; two daughters Betty Bonk und her husband Bill cf Whithy and Loreen and ber husband Rick White cf West H-ill. Ho is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jerry sud Julie Randaîl, Su,.an (Bcnk) Plumzîdge, Debra (Bond) Dufresne aud their spouses, Donna and Carl Bonk, Catherine and Stephen Randali and Gregory Papp; aud four great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Mary Luela Fowler, wbom ho married in 1931I, died on Sept. 29, 1988. Mr. Randaîl was at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby, where Rev. Dr. Patrick White conducted the funeral servie on Oct. 5, 1993, followed by interment in Grovesido Cemetery, Whitby. If desired, contributions te the A]zbeimers Society would be appreciated- SE[EILA GEORGE A resident of Whitby for about 50 years, who lived at 601 Dundas St. E, Sheila Katherine George died at Suunycrest Nursing Home, Whitby on Oct. 1, 1993. She was 85. A daughter of the late H-enry Jonathan Sissons and Constance Kerr, she was boem at Fort Frances, Ont. in March 30, 1908. Mrs. George is survived by hem husband, Norman Arthur George; one son, Geoffery; three daughters, Rosiland, Mary and Constance; nine grandchildren, Catherine, Timothy, Edward and Martin Dawson, Fiona and Sylvia Harrigan, Derek and Jennifer George and Andrew Currier; and five great-grandchildren. One son, William Henry George; one granddaughter, Alexandra Currier, aud one sister, Muriel Sissons, died bofore her. Mrs. George was at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whithy. Rev. Dr. Patrick White conducted the funeral service at Ail Saints' Anglican Church on Oct. 5, 1993, followed by cremation at Mount Lawn Cemetery, Whitby,, with interment of the ashes at Barrie Union Cemetery. JANE KIIY A member of an old Port Whitby family, Jane Francis Adelaide Kirby <ied at Fairview Lodge, Whitby on Sept. 28, 1993. A daughter cf the late Richard Goldring and Harriot Aun Swan, she was born at Port Whitby at 1750 Dufferin St. on Aug. 17, 1898. Mrs. irby had spent mny years in Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake before returning to her childhood homo at Port Whitby in 1979. She was a clerk for the Confederation Life Insurance Com pany. Mrs. Kirhy is survived hy one sister, Bertha Evans cf Whitby, and nieces and nephews, Mrs. Hilton Nicholson cf Pickering, Mrs. Irma White cf Oshawa, Peter Godring cf Willington, Delaware, U.S.A and John Golcring cf Thunder Bay. Her husband, William Kirby; four brothers, Rev. Norman, Ernest, John and Percy Goldring, and two sisters, Emma aud Olive, died hefore her. Mrs Kirby was at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby. Rev. Paul Feheley conducted the funeral service at St. JohnIs Anglican Church, Port Whitby, fellowed by interment in St. John's Cemetery. &. NOBGROVE CLEMERNCE A fetired fariner, R. Norgrove Clernence died at Whitby General H.opsital on Oct. 2, 1992. Ho had lived at 404 King St., Whitby since his retirement frorn farming in Whitby. A son of the late Robert Fletcher Clemence and Hannah Margaret Smnith, ho was born at Kirby, Ont. on Aug. 7, 1912. Mr. Clemence is survived by his wife, the former Gwendolyne Larsen. Qne brother, Charles Clemence, cied before him. Mr. Clemence was at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whithy, where Rev. Brian Cee conductod the funeral service on Oct. 4, 1993, followed by interment in Oshawa Union Cemeteiy. If desired, contributions to the Heart and Stroke Founcation would ho appreciatod. EMANUELAGOSTA Emanuel Agosta of Millstone Croscent, Whitby died of a heart attack on September 23, 1993 at the Colonial Inn Motel, Madoc, Ont. He was 44. Ho was hemn in Italy, son of Antonio and Carmela (Rizza) Ag osta. He married Franca, Pirrotta on Se pt. 15, 1973 in Scarborough. A Wbitby resident for 12 years, Mr. Agosta was a construction forem*,n. He was a member of 1-ol Fil Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, children Carmela and Nancy, brother Sebastian and sister Maria Leccese, in-laws and nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at Holy Family Church on Sept. 27, 1993, Father Breen conduct- ing. Interment at Resurrection Donations can be made te a trust fund, Carmela and Nancy Agosta, at the National Bank at Rossland Road and Gardon Street. JULIA ROBERTS Julia Roberts died at Tuila. more Nursing Home, Brampton on Sunday, September 26, 1993. She was 93. She is survived hy son Gordon (and his wife Joyoe), daughters Catherine Cufaro (and her hus- band Don) and Marie Mason (and her husband Len, many grandchildren and great-gran d- children. She was predoceased b y hus- band Albert Roberts and hus- baud James Martin. Mrs. Roberts rested at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel in WVhitby on Tuesday, Sept. 28, with Mass of the Christian Burial on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
