Whitby Free Press, Wednesday, September 22, 1993, Page 21 Meranda Waters HENRY ST. H.S. Lucie Rochette ST, CHARLES GARNIER After a much deserved two months of R&R, staff and students are back at Henry Street H-igh School. Last June, we said our fond farewells te our principal Mr. Musselman and opened our wings wide fer our new 'Head Hawk,' Mi. Grant. Aise, joining the nest, you might say, 18 Mr. Cookson, VP extraordinaire. Id aise like te pint eut that a brand new batch of 'hawklings,' or Grade 9, students, now MIl the halls. A warm welcome goes out te al those, staff and students alike, whojoined Henry this year. :Something else that's new and impreved at Henry this year, as i each September, is our student council. And they, like the rest of the school, took ne time in getting things off the ground. Last week, for exainple, they put together our first, of many I assure you, exciting and bilarious assembles. Out the windew was the old 'tape the grade nine te the wall' sud in its place -- buman sundaes. Yes, human sundaes. And it was everythidng you would imagine it was, complete with a cherry on tep. Student council bas aise been busy getting together our student cards, and ail the benefits that go witb them. At council headquarters, you can pick up your card for $25, or $25 sud $15 if your brother or sister go to Henry, tee. The benefits of having cards are encless. Take for example, this F'riday's first dance sud free barbecue. That's net even mentioning yearbook sud Henry grab discounts, buy-outs sud more. What a bargain. As well, student council sud the guidance office got the Grade 9s off te a great start on Sept. 2 with a barbecue. Students had the opportunitv te, get to know the echool a litie btter and meet their fellow students. Look for more great activities from the guidance office. If you've been looking these past few weeks for soznething te keep you busy, -chances are you didn't have to, look fatr. Many of Henry>s clubs and activities are already in full swing. If settling a few major issues, or at least having your opinion heard, iq your idea of a good time, you were most likely at the debating club's first meeting. Or if you prefer te put your ideas in writing, you've probably signed up te, be a part of Hawk Talk, Henry's fab school newspaper. As weIl, sports teams such as girls' basketball, boys? volleyball, Hawk football, tennis sud golf are already sizing up the competition. Se what are you waiting for? Get eut there and get involved. Nancy Rosa Danielle Ricard Rob Van Mil Jennifer Young Bonjour. It's really getting cbilly eut there, isn't it? Hmmm .I guess that mesus that winter is on the way. Last week was a fairly quiet one at Saint-Charles-Garnier. At the Monday morning assembly, M. Berry, our principal, congratulated several students who participated in a basketball contest last year. The students received certificates for having participated and performned well in the competition. Congratulations students whe certificates. toe althe received Friday was the deadline for course changes. For those students wbo had a problem with their scbedules, things were quickly rectifled. Thanks te the guidance office and the students for their patience. Friday was aise the day that many students dread ... class pictures. Ail morning Fridayaa representative of Jostens Caada was at the school te, immortalize everyone in the yearbook. Pocket mirrors glinted in the fluorescent lights as students made last minute adjustments te, their bair, sud (for the girls, of course), makeup. I hope everyone's pictures turn eut nicely.
