Executive members are Andy DeHaan, president; Brian Wick, vice-president for public relations; Dave Smith, vice-president for membership; H1ilda Danforth, secret.ary; Viola Tebble, treasurer; Penny Scuse, registrar. Ruth Collins, president for the Scouts Canada-Lakeland Region, presided over the election. Service awards were presented te a nuinher et leaders and adult volunteers for their years et dedication te the movement: for fi ve years adult service in scouting, Larry Webb; for 10 years service, Audre Robichaud, David Lewis, Andy DeHaan, Dave Smith and Katherine Harker; for 15 years service, Kevin Tomlinsen, John Wild and Edwina Hourahine; for 20 years service, Noreen Wild; for 25 years service, Phyllis Webb. They are called woodbadge courses and consist et a weekend introduction, a week-long intensive training session and on-the-job experience. The agency's second annual wiener roast was attended by almost 300 volunteers, clients and staff, an increase et 33 per cent over last year. This is the largest number et participants in any agency activity in its 15-year history. The petting zoo, swings and hayrides were highlights for many who had nover had the opportunity te lake part in these activities betore -- adults as well as children. Expert chefs fromn the Canadian Progress Club, a service club in Ajax-Pickering, provided the barbecue as well as the manpewer. Red wigglers are kept in a box of rganie bdding for indeor composting. They preduce castings that provide a rich fertilizer. The PWRC will do a recycling display during a summer weekend. Several pop recycling bins have been installed at the park, but employees still have te spend timne separating cans and ether recyclables frern garbage bins. In Pickering, herbicides that are sprayed on public parks are being phased eut. Pickering's superintendent of parks, Jirs Brickness, says that the town has net only dramnatically cut back en spraying this year but bas aise, applied a natural fertilizer. Hopefully, ail cemmuaities will follow the city of Waterloo which has virtually eliminated the use ef chemicals, as well as preduced a 10-page beldet on 'Alternatives te Pesticides!'
