Wbitby's peewee A rep lacrosse team, sponsored by Oshawa Blue Knights field lacrosse, went undefeated to win the Don Bye Lakers Classic in Peterborough, their first tournament win of the season. In the first gaine, Whitby decisively defeated Scarboough 10-1. Whitby dominated the gaine from the first face-off tili the end of the gaine. If it wasn't for strong goaltending by Scarborough, the score could have even been higher. The MVI' for Wihitby was Casey Dupont. Against Hamilton, Whitby started slowly and found theinselves down by two goals early in the gaine. 1But Whitby rallied to win by a score of 9-5. Again the MVP for Whitby was Dupont. In the third gaine, Whitby fell behind early in the game but prevailed to defeat a stubbomn St. Catharines' tean 6-2. Thie MVI' for Whitby was Scott lobe. Whitby advanced to the championship gaine against acralPeterborough. Coaches Marty Gallas, Tom McNaughton, Wayne Church, Serge Dupont, Louie Atkinson and Ian Wylie had the tearn well primed for the team's first big test of the year. Whitby started fast and er looked back, winning by a 9-2 score. Whenever Peterborough was able to penetrate the tough Whitby defence, goalie Scott Wylie came up with big saves. He was named MVI'. Dupont led the attack with 12 points, followed by Scott Beegan with eight, Billy Greer seven, Chris Thalor and Jeif Frazer six, Hobe and Garett Winder five, Mike IHamilton, - Brad McNaughton, Mike Morrison four each, Jamie Giles three, Barrett Church, Scott WýYlie, Jay Harrison two each, and Nick Owen and Chad Atkinson one. The Whitby teain visited Ajax on May 31. The irregular size field and sinaller nets definitely gave the home side the advantage. Zeman, .51, will be one of the runners in the International Maski-Courons marathon in Quebec on June 13. International Maski-Courons is described as "Ca great popular celebration which unites family and friends.» The scenic race, in its l9th season is 20 kilometers around Lake Maskinonge and Zeman will be in the category of veteran II. Mhe event is cernposed of several competitions: 20 km., 10 km, 5 km. or 1 km. of running races and 20 km., 10 km. or 5 km. of walking. Last year the race attracted more than 8.300,oarticicants. Ibis year, the biggest foreign delegation of the race wilI be 21 natives of Luxembourg. It is their f irst time at the race. Bill Reifsnyder of the U.S. and Portugal's Rosa Mota, an Olymn- pic champion at Seoul, hold the records for 20 km. men and 20 km. women, respectively Zeman began runnin g in 1985 in a marathon for Sick Children's Hospital at aege 44 when most runners Woul d be ending their athletic careers, not beginning them. "I like toe at," says Zeman, adding that he also likes te keep in shape. Since 1986, Zeman has been competing in the international race that runs 20 km around Lake Maskinonge. "I try my best to run as well as Ican.
