Marigold the Clown and the Henry Street High School Land will be on hand to entertain ft-om 10 to 10:30 a.m., when the ceremonial grouadbreaking wil take place. The Kids' Safety Village of DU ham Region is a commuaity prqýect initiated by the Optimist Club of« Ajax and the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood. The village is a non-profit venture that will be built with funds donated by service organizations, business enter- prises and private citizens. When complete, the safety village will be a kid-sized town with businesses, operating street lights, traflic signais and railroad crossing. Durham Regional Police will administer the village. Ail elementary school students from kindergarten to Grade 3 in the region will visit the village once a year, and be taughit rond and traffic safety in an on-site classroom. They %vill thon drive mriniature cars or ride bikes throughiout the streets of the village, practising their traflic knowledge in a safe and coatrolled real-life setting. The goal of the village is to reduce the numiber of traffic accidents involving children and instill a knowledge or road safety that will stay with the children through their lives.
