You can burn yourself teasting marshmallows, spilling boiling water on yourself at a corn roast or sliding down a rope. Electricity, hot motors on boats, mowers and chemicals can al cause burns. Here is some fundamental advice from the experts at St. John Ambulance on how te give first aid for burns. Treat minor burns, including sunburn, by immersing in cool water. With a mid case of sunburn, you may want te apply some cooing lotion. But do net apply lotion or ointment on other humas including a serious sunhurn. Instead use cool water. It will reduce the heat and pain and will lessen the chance of further damage te the skin. If yeu don't have indoor plumbing, a nearby lake will do. If you cannot inmerse the humn, cover it with a clean cloth soaked ini cean, cool water and change it ofren. If you suifer a chemical hurn, brush off' any powdered chemical immeciately with a dry cloth or brush. Flush the area thoroughly under running water for 10 to 15 minutes. Get out of contaminated clothing quickly and carefully. If the chemical gets into your eyes, flush your eyes under a shower or a gently runming tap immediately for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical attention. Remove anything constrictive such as jewelry, beits or boots before a burned area starts te swell. Do not try to remove clothing that is s'tuck to a humn. Once you have cooled the hurn, cover it lightly %vith a dlean, preferably sterile, lint-free cloth that will not stick. Get te medical help, continuing to cool the area on the way.
