Little Marketing & Motivation Ltd. of Whitby held a breakfast press conference yesterday ta introduce the media te the International Transfer and Service Centre (ITS) of Baesweiler, Germany. At the press conference was Dr. Willi Linkens, managing director of ITS, a technology centre that specializes in helping Canadian and Amnerican busi- nesses start European locations, te take advantage of the new European single market. The centre is located in the core of Europe, in the Aaschen region of Germany, with neighbburs Belgium and the Netherlands. The cities of Cologne, Düseseldorf and Bonn are nearby, with the major ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam easily accessible. Its representatives plan te retum te Durham Region and hast a dinner meeting for area businesses interested in expancing into the European marketplace. Durham Region-based indus- try, willing ta expand, will find out how te begin. SAlso attending the conference was Fritz Rôtting, manager of the charnber of commerce of the Aachen area and managing director of the Anchen Society of Innovation and Technology Transfer. He said the Anchen area is one of the mast important in Germany in the area of science and research, boasting the largest technical university in Germany. Also attending was Dirk Pfeifferling, econornic geographer and colleague of Linkens, from the International Transfer and Service Centre in Baesweiler. Ronald H. Bail of the Escalator Handrail Company, located at the Oshawa-Whitby border, discussed why bids company recently opened their fourth manufacturing/sales facility in Baesweiler, Germany. In recent years, Bail bas expanded from an Oshawa base te Buffalo, N.Y., Davenpart, Iowa and now Baesweiler, ta serve European-based custemers. Ball's company is the largest manufacturer of bandrails for escalators in the world, and is known for its research and development in the area of vertical transportation. A variety of special events will entice people te the dawntown. Seme promotions are family.oriented while others will be geared tewards the membership. Fanmily events include International Week from May 10 ta 15, Heritage Day on Sept. il and the Christmas cainpaign in December. The Sidewalk Sale will be held from July 8 te 10 and Prafessional Business Week is in mid.Octeber. The BIA is preparing ta pramote events in newspaper, radia, banners, flyers and transit beards. The organization will aIse, have a business directory and business logos. The BIA will publish a community newsletter, have after-haurs business meetings and will introduce a business recrui tment program. To continue beautifying the downtewn area, the BIA will have spring wreatbs around the current decarations, bistorical street signage and dawntown entrance signs.
