Slgailis is OGRA president Dahuse UnvritHaia Vik Silgailis, Durham Region commissiener of works, was recently elected president of the Ontario Good Roade Association (OGRA). The election was held on the closing day of the association's 99th anniversary conference at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Len Rach, director Of engineering in Metro Toronto's transportation departinent, was elected firet vice-president, and Gerry Lalonde, councillor, Township of Cumberland, was elected second vice-president. Silgailis has been in municipal public works for more than 30 years. Starting with the City of Oshawa as director of operations, he then became Region director of operations and later director of engmneerinlg. He wae appointed commissioner of works ia 1991. A professional engineer, he holde a diploma in engineering from and a bachelor's civil engineerng degree from the Technic University of Nova Scotia in Halifax. Silgailis je a past president of the Municipal Engineers Association and served on the board of directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. He became a director of Ontario Good Roade Association in 1986 and has served on the association's education and productivity improvement, roade anxd transportation and policy development committees. Ontario Goode Roade Association je a municipal roads association. It represents more than 750 of Ontario's 831 municipalities. The association has helped shape policy and programs for the funcing and maintenance of municipal roade in Ontario for 99 years.
