Ninacs, Noble 7th in finals A Whitby duo was seventh in the novice dance competition at the Canadian figure skating championships in H amilton over the weekend. Teri Ninacs and Dale Noble, ofi the- Uxbridge Skating Club, were Oixth in compulsory dance and eighth in free dance to finish seventh overail. More than 400 skaters from across Canada competed in novice, junior and senior categor- esat the nationals, held at Cops Coliseum. Kturt Browning won the much- heralded showdown with Elvis Stojko in the senior men's cate- gory. They are considered the top two men's skaters in the world. undefeated in their last six reguilar season matches. Included in their final three wins was a pair of 8-2 victories over second- place Markham on Jan. 23 and third-place Richmond HIll-Vaughan on Jan. 30. By finishing first, the Whidtby squad received a first-round bye in the playoffs while Richmond Hill-Vaughan defeated Oshawa 2-0 in their opening round series. With almost two weeks between the regular sehedule and the post-season, Whitby tuned up with a pair of exhibition games against some stiff competition. On Feb. 3, Whitby hosted the Mississauga Reps, considered the top minor atom teara in Ontario. troop a 4-0 defeat on the strength of a two-goal performance b y Sean, MRury and a one-goal, two assist effort by Bobby McBride and Blaine Down. Mike Nemiez and Ian Watson combined for the shutout, turning back the strong Mfississauga offence several times. Jeremy Fisher, Jay Harrison and Stephane Linkiater each had one helper.
