Town council's planning and development committee recom- mended last week that a site plan application for the north- west corner of Rossland Rd. and Garden St. be approved. MIdeg If - endorsed by council next week, construction of the 138,493 sq. ft. retail-office complex plan- ned by Durham Heights Partner- ship Ltd. could soon be under- wa. The plaza is the first phase of an overall development approved by council earlier this year. Planned to be built in stages over a 10- to 15-year period, the project will spread over 54 acres northwest of Rossland and Gar- den. Included in the development will be 1,055 mixed density hous- ing units and additional commer- cial and office uses. Ron Wojeicki, vice-president of Graywood Developments Ltd., a principal partner in the project, could not give a definite con- struction date. "As soon as we get the appro- vals we will have the shovel in the ground,» Wojcicki told com- mittee. Councillor Joe Drumm noted that the site has been the subject of various development proposals since 1976. "It started as 500,000 or a million sq. ft. and now it's down to this, let's just get it going,» said Drumm.
