A son of the late John Willis Bateman, who was mayor of Whitby from 1926 to 1928, and Elizabeth Tasker, he was boru in Whitby in 1903. A N Mr. Bateman learned the banking business in Whitby and qG was manager of the Whitby ~JG branch of the Canadian Bank of In 1950, he was transferred to the bank's branch at Grimsby, and spent the remainder of his life in that community.
