Plumb leada a group of walkers who have volunteered to walk from the ON Tower to Oshawa, a 60km stretch, on June 29 to raise funds for the United Way. Plumb an -emlye at Gus Brown ifJotor in Wlutby, started the walk for charity three years ago when he and bis brother- mn-law bad a «dare' to complete the walk that is actuaily longer than the Boston Marathon. "'I actually dared hlm,'n says Plumb. Prom a reporter who inter- viewed hfim,Pumb got the idea of using the walk to raise funds for charity. Plumb then approached the United Way with bis plan and within two days receîved full support from the organization. Last year Plumb and hie walkers raised enough mone to both help out the Uitie ay anid suppy new two-way radios to St. John Ambulance in Wbitby. This year the group la looking for a corporate sponsor as well as personal donations. aWe haven't quite decided on ail of the det-ails yet,' says Plumb. The walking group already has 15 members, b ut more are wel- come to join. Anyone interested can join the group for practice walkcs on Sun- days, starting at 9:15 a in at the beginig of the Kiwanis ±rail in east Oshawa (near King and Harmony). We're always amazed we've gne so, far i what seems like such a short time,' says Plumb. Last year, seven of nine people- finished the walk.
