Further samples of bilge water were then tested, but as of Mon- day, Leveda was not a*are of the test resuit . PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) have been linked to cancer in laboratory animais. Although production of PCBs, used as a cooling agent for eiec- trical transformera was banned in the 1970s the chemical is only considered dangerous if exposed tofire. Speaking from a ministry seminar i Cornwall, Levedag said that as of last Thursday, transformers containing almost 500 g llons of PCBs were stili on board the vessel., "The transformers are stili -on the boat as far as I know, I haven't heard that they've be removed," said Levedag. Robinson, a Whitby business- man, intends to sell the ferry which has been docked at the harbour for four years. But before he can do so, three tra 'nsformeirs containing PCBs must be removed before the boat can leave the harbour. 1 A local couple plan to tow the boat to Toronto and refurbish the OPE'N Colour for i Ii TULIP FESTIVAL APRIL 27 TO MAY 20 ROSE FESTIVAL JUNE 22 TO JULY 1 CHRYSANTHEMUM FESTI VAL SEPT. 14 TO SEPT. 22 FESTIVAL 0F LUGHTS MID NOV.
